As well as beaches, Lloret also boasts a rich cultural and natural heritage. Iberian settlements, medieval castles, hermitages and gardens bear witness to the history of the town and the Lloret 48 km2 municipal district is a paradise for nature lovers. Hiking, mountain biking, snorkelling, scuba diving and kayaking are some of the many activities that will enable the visitor to explore every nook and cranny of the area around Lloret.

Climate

Lloret de Mar has a Mediterranean climate, and proximity to the sea makes for mild temperatures all year round.

Opening times and local customs

Business hours: Business hours are from 8 or 9 a.m. until 1 or 1.30 p.m. and again from 4 p.m. until 7 or 7.30 p.m. Banks and public administration offices close at 2 or 3 p.m. and do not reopen in the evening.

Shop opening times: Shops in Lloret open from Monday to Saturday from 9 or 10 a.m. until 1 or 1.30 p.m. and again from 4 p.m. until 8 or 8.30 p.m. In summertime many shops stay open until 10 p.m. (latest permitted opening time) and some shops also open on Sunday. Pubs and music bars close at 3 a.m. and discotheques close at 5 a.m.

Meal times: In Lloret de Mar, like elsewhere in Spain, mealtimes tend to be later than in other European countries. Breakfast is served between 9 and 11 a.m. and is usually quite light. Lunch is usually served between 1.30 and 3.30 p.m. and dinner between 8.30 and 10.30 p.m. Restaurants usually open at these times, although some places serve meals all day long and others are open 24 hours a day.

Languages

Spanish and Catalan are the official languages in Lloret de Mar, and all over Catalonia, although many people in this tourist resort understand and speak other languages such as English and French. Menus in restaurants and bars are written in several languages..

Currency

The euro () is the official European Union currency. Other currencies can be exchanged in banks, savings banks and bureaux de change in town. Banks open from Monday to Friday from 8h30 to 14h00, and on Saturday from 8h30 to 13h00. In summer banks do not open on Saturdays. Savings banks also open on Thursday afternoons, except in summer. Several bureaux de change open daily.

Getting to Lloret de Mar

By road

There are three road accesses to Lloret. Travelling northwards from Barcelona, take the coastal C-32 motorway as far as Palafolls and then drive the last 12 km along the N-II and G-682 roads to Blanes and on to Lloret. Travelling southwards from France, take the AP-7 motorway until Exit 9 (signposted Lloret de Mar) and then drive the last 14 km along the GI-680 road. Travelling from Tossa de Mar, take the G-680 road for 12 km to Lloret. During their stay in Lloret, visitors can park their cars in any of the municipal or private car parks in the town.

By plane

The nearest airports to Lloret are Barcelona (75 km) and Girona airports (30 km). Barcelona airport has regular flights to all major cities in the world. Numerous low cost and charter flights to Girona airport link Lloret to many European cites.

By train

There is no direct railway link to Lloret but the town is not far from the two main lines that connect Barcelona to France. The nearest railway station on the coastal line is Blanes and trains run to Barcelona every 30 minutes. Take a local Pujol bus from Lloret to Blanes station www.transportspujol.com. The trip takes 20 minutes and buses run all day (consult timetables). A single ticket costs 1.5. The nearest railway station on the inland line is Sils, 17 km from Lloret.

By boat

Tourist cruises operate during the summer season between Lloret and nearby Blanes, Tossa de Mar and St. Feliu. There is a marina for medium-sized craft at Canyelles beach in Lloret.
